Sam Kavarsky founded Science Over Tradition in 2018 to provide an outlet for high quality training, fueling, and recovery coaching. Science Over Tradition was developed with a systemic approach in mind. We focus on the unique biomechanics and biochemistry of each person that we work with in order to provide them with the greatest opportunity to reach their specified goals. An evidence-based approach is combined with years of practical experience with all populations to ensure that members are utilizing a system that will produce unparalleled results.
Founder’s Bio
Sam Kavarsky is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach and Precision Nutrition Level 2 Coach. He holds a Bachelors Degree from Adelphi University in Physical Education and a Masters Degree from Springfield College in Exercise Science with a concentration in Strength & Conditioning. Currently, Sam is a student at the University of Bridgeport where he is pursuing a doctorate in chiropractic and a second masters degree in human nutrition. In addition to an extensive formal education, Sam has also received some of the top certifications in the health & fitness industry and continues to attend seminars, classes, and events that will ensure that Science Over Tradition is on the cutting-edge of health and performance coaching. Sam has also consulted and presented for various teams and organizations such as the National Strength & Conditioning Association, Allegiate Gym, Generation UCAN, and Momentous.
Prior to establishing Science Over Tradition, Sam was an assistant strength & conditioning coach and the performance nutrition coordinator for UCLA football under head coaches Chip Kelly, Jedd Fisch, and Jim Mora Jr. During his time at UCLA, Sam created and implemented a quadrennial nutrition periodization model that focused on optimizing body composition, reducing injury risk, and improving on field performance. In addition to the implementation of high performance training protocols, Sam also utilized various assessments, education, and fueling methods to ensure that athletes were put in the best position to be successful.
During his time at Springfield College, Sam served as the head strength & conditioning coach for the football program. During this time, Sam created and implemented every aspect of the team’s training model which focused on the development of a hierarchy of physical qualities in order to improve mobility, strength, explosiveness, and speed. Sam also created and was in charge of an internship curriculum that focused on the development and education of coaches looking to excel in the strength & conditioning profession. In addition to his position as the head strength & conditioning coach, Sam was also in charge of performance nutrition for all student-athletes. This experience gave him the opportunity to work one on one with hundreds of athletes and present his performance nutrition education model to a wide range of teams and coaches.
Sam has had the opportunity to be mentored by top coaches in the field of health, performance, and strength & conditioning. These mentors include Rob Panariello, Charles Poliquin, Dr. John Berardi, and Dr. Andreo Spina of Functional Range Systems. Prior to and during his time at Springfield, Sam spent also spent a copious amount of time learning from various coaches and participating in the top internships in collegiate athletics. Sam’s initial experience as a strength & conditioning coach began as the head strength & conditioning coach for Lawrence High School where he coached from 2009-2012. Over the course of a four year period, the strength & conditioning program evolved into a tremendous resource for the development of young athletes. The on field results of the program were an outstanding representation of the effort put in by the student-athletes who participated in the program. Lawrence High School went on to win five consecutive county championships, three consecutive Long Island Championships, and in 2012 were ranked as the number one team in New York State. Numerous student-athletes moved on to high level collegiate athletic programs. This “in the trenches” experience provided an invaluable opportunity for Sam to develop his coaching foundation and philosophy.
Prior to and during his time at Lawrence High School, Sam was also able to work with hundreds of general population clients who had health-based goals which included weight loss, mobility, and muscle gain. Sam’s work at the Professional Athletic Performance Center in Garden City, New York provided him the opportunity to learn from physical therapists and athletic trainers which was critical in his understanding of post-rehabilitation training. Sam continues to implement concepts learned early on in his career and has adapted and modified various protocols to ensure the best experience for the individuals who he works with.
